A judge down in Florida has overturned a law passed by the legislature there and signed by Gov. Rick Scott that restricted what doctors could say to their patients concerning guns.
Here's the story in the Miami Herald.
As you can imagine the law and the judge's decision have sparked a firestorm of debate.
The stereotypical left attacks the law as an infringement on free speech and that it was cooked up by gun supporters who didn't want pediatricians telling parents that having guns around the house posed a danger to their children. They hail the judge's ruling.
The stereotypical right says the ruling is from an activist judge trying to make law contrary to what the judiciary wanted. The sponsor of the legislation says it was to keep physicians from harassing patients.
Among my question are why doctors were singled out? If the politicians believe they can tell us what to say, what is the difference between a doctor talking to someone about gun safety and the National Rifle Association talking to someone about gun safety.
